We are pleased to have gained consent for 35 homes on a greenfield site in Somerleyton in East Suffolk. We took the site through the Local Plan process gaining a greenfield allocation for a village which has not had such allocations for many years. The scheme provides affordable housing, and new homes to support local facilities such as the primary school, and transport services.

The local plan and neighbourhood plan required a very high quality design because of the historic character of the village. The application addressed several key issues, including the impact on the Conservation Area, and listed buildings. Linking the site to the rest of the village and the surrounding facilities was key. The design is highly permeable and links existing footways with walking routes and new open space.

What started out as a controversial proposal at the Local Plan stage gained support so that the application received many positive comments. This meant that unusually for the area the application did not have to be decided by Committee but was a delegated decision.
