Evolution Town Planning have been heavily involved in a number of significant planning permissions granted on the former USAF Bentwaters site.

The latest successful application will see Suffolk taking a leading role in the UK’s fast growing screen industry, with a new film studio being built. The new building will be the second tallest studio in the country and will provide 34,000 sq.ft. of space for filming of blockbuster movies, television shows and music videos.

In addition, the application included change of use of existing land and the reuse of existing former military buildings as production suites, workshops and storage facilities.

The application received unanimous support at the local authority’s planning meeting, with the Planning Chairman commending the application as “one of the most exciting projects to come to Suffolk Coastal in years”.

Owners of the site, Bentwaters Parks, are passionate about using the studios to give young people opportunities in the screen industry and are keen to start building as soon as possible.

The Bentwaters site has seen a number of significant planning permissions granted in recent years including a site-wide ‘masterplan’ which regularised the use of the majority of the buildings and open areas and the continued use of the runway for flying.

There is also a large biogas plant to the east of the studio site and it is envisaged that the new studio may take its power from the biogas plant, meaning it can offer film companies the unique opportunity for carbon neutral filming.
